The First Front Burner

This is the post excerpt.

This blog is inspired by a love of old news, old photographs, and bringing them to light in a new world.  I research genealogy and I am constantly running into interesting old news articles that have interest for today’s readers.  These articles will be the Back Story, mostly as scanned newsprint gleaned from Newspapers.com, with attribution to the source and website, with little comment.  Other sources may be used as time goes by.

As for the Front Burner, these will be selected news items from recent and current events.  I cannot predict what they will be.  Since they will be recent and current, they will most likely be my own opinions or creative thoughts.

Goodbye Blocko

Blocko was the best dog I have ever had. He was always around me, I guess I was his pack leader. His name was my daughter’s idea. Young at the time, she liked to play with blocks and Lego’s, and invented the name from those. We had to let him go today after 13-1/2 years. I will miss him dearly.

Memory Tricks

Originally posted on Facebook, October 1, 2018

It’s a strange memory. I remember this song playing on the AM radio when mom was going to the A&P to grocery shop.

I was riding in the back seat with the window down, stop and go traffic, and a hot sun on a summer’s day. The windows had to be cranked down, it was work for a 4 or 5 year old kid, but I was up to the task. The car, as with most cars back then, did not have air conditioning or FM radio. Child safety seats were not yet required, the seat belts were our only crash protection.

I woke up yesterday thinking of this. I know mom didn’t like Nat King Cole, but I always think of her and that day when I hear this song. I’m not big on Mother’s day or Father’s day tributes, my personal remembrance is enough now that you are gone. But this song, stuck in my head for unknown reasons must be a sign that you were thinking of me. God Bless you mom. I love you and think of you often.
